The first medical school of university character in Romania, with teaching in Romanian language, forerunner of Medicine Faculty in Iasi – the Surgery School, was founded by Nicolae Negura and inaugurated with Prince Al.I.Cuza’s help on 30th November 1859, in the Mihailean Academy headquarters.
