It all started at Iasi ::

George Emil Palade, the First Romanian Laureate of the Nobel Prize (Iasi, 1912 - U.S.A., 2008) He became a member of the National Academy of Science in U.S.A. (1961). Together with Keith Porter, he edited the magazine “The Journal of Cell Biology”, the most important scientific publication in the Cellular Biology field. In 1974 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine. On the 12th of March 1986, the president Ronald Regan awarded him the National Medal, for his distinct merits in the field of science.
