Grigore Cobalcescu (1831-1892) , member of the Romanian Academy, was the founder of the Romanian geology school, the geological researches in Romania and the one who edited the first manual of geology in Romanian language and the first Romanian work in the field of geology, “Rapidea’s limestone” (1862).
