The Old Cathedral (near the Metropolitan Cathedral)

The Church "Saint Gheorghe", or the Old Metropolitan Cathedral, was built between 1761 - 1768, under the reign of Theodor Calimachi, by his brother, the Metropolit Gavril Calimachi. The construction presents oriental and baroque characteristics, vegetal motifs, gilded sculptures and Byzantine icons. The interior paintings were realized by Eustatie Altini (1772 - 1815).
