The comedy “The Jays” is part of Alexandru Kirițescu’s bourgeois trilogy and depicts, throughout the three acts, the avatars of the Duduleanu clan, embodied by the three “chickens” Aneta, Zoia and Lena. The center of interest of the work lies, however, in the drawing of the cruel face of the provincial world. The rhythm of the play is born outside of any evolutionary line from the permanent tension of the dialogue, from the free display of malice, from the provocation, the abruptness and the irritation of the conversation partner. The comedy “Gaițele” thus becomes one of the most modern Romanian theatrical experiences.
