It all started at Iasi ::
The oldest monument in Romania (November 1834) – the Obelisk of Lions (situated in Copou Park) was raised as a thanking sign to Russia and Turkey for the first law on political, administrative and juridical organization, the Law of Organic Rules.
The works were materialized by architect G. Freywald and M.Singurov, after scholar Gheorghe Asachi’s project. Having 13 m height and 10 t weight, the column of rock is held by four giant lions, created at Lemberg by sculptor Johann Semser.
