The Monument of the Great Union of 1918 ::

The Monument of the Great Union of 1918- 16 University Street, in front of the ''Gr.T. Popa" Univ. of Medicine and Pharmacy

The actual monument is a copy of the initial one (author Olga I. Sturza), inaugurated in 1927, in the presence of the royal family. Situated in front of The Ferdinand I-st Foundation (the actual "M. Eminescu" Central Universitary Library), that monument disappeared in 1947 and was mounted in the same place the monument dedicated to Mihai Eminescu (located initially at the "Al.I. Cuza" University).

Inaugurated on 1-st of December 1999, the new Monument of the Great Union of 1918 was sculpted in marble (author, C. Crenganis). The monument is a statuary group, representing the Romanian countries. On the pedestal are engraved some phrazes ― historical "messages" ; by these, personalities of the Romanian history remember the profound significations of the union of the Romanian Principalities with Transylvania. One of these "messages" , transmitted by Al.I. Cuza to the posterity, is memorable: " The union of the crowns belonging to Stefan [cel Mare] and Mihai [Viteazul] is the triumph of a remarkable principle, resisting in the Romanian hearts." (1859).
